In this day and age, there are many ways to shop, browse, and watch movies. Many services offer a variety of ways to purchase or rent movies these days. Some folks opt to use streaming services or other online means to satisfy their entertainment needs. Myself, I prefer to shop online and use my time to find the best deals on DVD's and Blu Rays. There are many websites that offer competitive pricing on all our entertainment wants and needs.
Over the past five or so years, I've built up a collection of roughly 1500 movies. Some have been rotated out and replaced with a high def format disc, others just remain as dvd movies in my large collection that spans the last 15 years of my life. Personally, I prefer to have a hard copy of any movie I might want to add to my collection. Having a whole wall dedicated specifically to my collection makes for a nice conversation piece when I have company. It also adds a while spectrum of films for us to choose from if we're having one of our monthly movie nights.
Another great part of owning movies is having the physical case to look at and appreciate the artwork that's gone in to putting together such excellent packaging. Some companies are now putting effort in to creating steel case packing and more interactive type packaging that might include a full book or collectible items. The release of The Dark Knight on Blu Ray featured several packages that were produced around a model Bat-cycle and another version that was the Batman mask. These fun collectibles just make my hobby more fun as I hunt for the best deals and coolest collectibles.
Actually owning my media is my personal choice. Although streaming allows for quick access to almost anything, I personally opt for having an actual hard copy of most movies that I really like.
