Bronson is the twisted true tale of Great Britain's most violent criminal. The movie starts when "Bronson" is a child and leaves off after he's been in prison for well over thirty years. He fucked up his one small chance at parole and got thrown back into prison after several weeks. Throughout the movie Bronson states many times that he enjoys prison because it's like a "hotel". He has now been in solitary confinement for decades. This movie is supposedly a true story. I'd say it's very loosely based on true events. Either way, Bronson is a must see movie for any fan of A Clockwork Orange or Chopper (another true life criminal story which is quite a bit better than this one).
This movie tends to blend different elements very well by using a stage play to begin and end the story. The narrative is told from the main character's point of view while performing a stage play for a vast audience of cheering Brits. They cheer for violence and bloodshed throughout his tale of imprisonment.
The realism of the jail surroundings are excellent. You can truly feel the grunge and nastiness of the numerous prisons he visits throughout the movie. The stage play portions are excellent stoner material but take away from the story.
Tom Hardy is going to be huge in the next few years. Next, he's playing Max in George Miller's new Mad Max: Fury Road. Bronson is not a must see film for all, but a definite video rental for those into the offbeat. I wouldn't show it to my mother but I'd definitely smoke a joint and share it with my good friends.
